T T E R S Recycling didn't fail A May 28 Herald article stated: Pebble Beach needs to sell... to fix its recycled-water project which essentially failed." First of all, it isn't the P.B.Company's recycled water project. We own it and run it every day during irrigation season, delivering as much water as is available. We do this because the water is a valuable resource and because there are times when this is the only water available for the users. We make about 670 acre-feet of water per yar and have been doing so for nine years. That is, based on your calculation, enough water for 2,700 homes. That's water that isn't taken from the Carmel River aquifer. In fact, without our water the California-American Water Company would have violated State order 95-10, which placed restrictions on water withdrawal from the Carmel River aquifer. Cal-Am would have violated that order six of the last eight years without our water. We are dedicated to keeping this water flowing. We have produced over 2 billion gallons of water over the last nine years, and so we must take exception to statements such as "essentially failed." Ray von
